    Hello ,

    Im trying to activate my garmin gps and i have a error message saying :

    Purge comm error .

    HELP PLEASE !

    Activate it on the garmin.com web site you mean? Which Garmin?

    Hello again ,

    Im trying to activate my Garmin gpsmap 78s with the "activate gps" button on COMPEGPS LAND.
    After trying to activate it im getting the error message .

    Did you configure communication before? (menubar>communication>configure communication

    you can try with auto-search gps to get proper settings or

    "Configuration is not needed . just plug to device ...."

    This is the message that i get when i go to communication .

    the error problem starts when i press "activate gps" button on compegps.

    Garmin usually have their machines set to "Garmin Garmin" for communication under setup, you may need to change this but before you do......... You need to connect to the serial port (round plug) on the GPSMap78S to then connect to a serial to USB adapter cable to then connect to the PC. The serial to USB adapter cable has to be chosen carefully and any with a prolific chip in it should work; I use the ATEN UC-232A cable. The USB port on the 78S does not output the NMEA0183 data you require to see position on CompeGPS Land/Air/TwoNav. Read page 24 of the 78S manual. Further, this, is not a CompeGPS issue, it is a Garmin issue.
