    Predeterminado Free VPMFs

I will collect here links to free vector maps forCompeGPS Land and TwoNav devices like the Aventura or Sportiva.

I create a Ski MAP for the Alps based on OSM .
Put a view on OpenPiste-Map to see which ski data is containing in OSM.

    OSM Alps Ski VMPF:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VAO0GEZW
Just put the VMPF and the CLAY on your SDHC-Card of your Aventura, ... or in the same directory to read it with ComepGPS Land.

This VMPF don't contain data like roads, paths, POIS, ...
It containg just ski specific data like alpin-, nordic- and ski tour-pistes.
The Ski pistes are also classified with the typical colors for difficulties.
light green= ski difficulty level 0 (novice)
cyan (instead of blue) = ski level 1
    red = ski level 2
violet (instead of black) = ski level 3
orange = ski level 4 (expert)
yellow = ski level 5 (freeride)

Ski lifts and gondola are also on the map.

Use it as additional to a raster map and/or the Teleatlas road VMAP from Compe.

On thing, sorry for the cryptic spanish identifiers. It's a technical issue.

At the moment I'm work on the map for the canary islands based on OSM data, with all data.
Additional I will highlighting MTB classified trails (mtb:scale tag in OSM) and hiking classified senderos (based on the swiss sac_scale tag in OSM).
Unfortunately hiking routes (relations in OSM) will be missed, because I have problems to extract this data from OSM with osm2mp.
I will create three different clays (topo clay, mtb clay and a hiking clay) which will works with the same VMPF.

For testing I create a map of the german land Hessen with all data of OSM.
Unfortunately the Aventura get in trouble in areas with high data density (like city areas). It's working fine on TwoNav Mac but the Aventura running out of memory!

I create some scripts to reduce the work to get OSM data onthe Aventura.
At the moment I describe (still under construction) it just in German (see http://www.naviboard.de/vb/showthread.php?t=41386).

I already sent a demo to Ray with Canary Island map, using cloudmade sources. The quality is not good enough in my point of view, but we can try to made it better.

If any more interested t help, Ray can publish the map here.

here is my version of the Canary topo map based on OSM data:

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=119J60DR

    I created 3 versions:
    classic topo presentation -> Canary_topo.mpvf
presentation with hiking classifications, based on the swiss SAC-scale -> Canary_sac.mpvf
presentation with mtb classifications, based on the tag mtb:scale (see Singletrailskala) -> Canary_mtb.mpvf

Put always the Clay with the same name like the MPVF also on the SD-Card!

For La Palma I add the Senderos from http://www.senderosdelapalma.com/.
osm2mp.pl has a problem with relations (routes) from OSM or I do something wrong...
That's the reason why this information is missed in my map.

The MPVF is always the same but it's the only way to assign different CLAYs by using different names.

I will use the mtb version combined with the spanish topo RMAP for my holiday on La Palma.

I add 2 screenshots to show the map:
You see the MTB version (Canary_mtb.mpvf):
On the left one you see ways are hihlighted depending on the MTB difficulties.
light green for mtb:scale=0, also S0 according to the Singletrailskala (easy)
    cyan for S1 (medium)
    rot for S2 (hard)
    violett for S3 (very hard)
S0-S2 is for normal MTB-Bikers, starting at S3 it's Freeride.

The orange dashed line is a local hiking route (LP).

When you put a view on the green lines, you will see a differences.
The lines with white in the center are tracks.
The ones with a brown line n the center are paths.
I get this effect by drawing the ways more times and taking care of the draw priority.

On the second screenshot you see a red dashed line, this is a national hiking route (GR).

The colors for the hiking classifications (Canary_sac.mpvf) are the same.
And based on the Swiss hiking scale.

    Also
green SAC T1 (hiking) or S0 (MTB)
    cyan SAC T2 or S1
    rot SAC T3 or S2
    violett SAC T4 or S3
    orange SAC T5 or S4
    yellow SAC T6 or S5

The map Canary_topo.mpvf is a classic topo map, without any way difficulty classification.

GPSTech, we split this thread to separate map creation questions from this thread.
    Check out http://forum.compegps.com/showthread.php?t=5047

Please ask questions on map creation there.

Back to your questions, all tools are in English.
But the documentations are not always in English, Europe is a multilingual continent.
E.g. the documentations of osm2mp.pl is mainly in Russian.

Luckily only a small part of Europe is native English speaking.

May you could try to create MP files with GlobalMapper.
GlobalMapper can read OSM and write MP files.
And Land can read MP files.

new Canary Topo MPVF based on OSM with data from 1th March 2011:

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HHPRPPTD

    I created 3 versions:
    classic topo presentation -> Canary_topo.mpvf
presentation with hiking classifications, based on the swiss SAC-scale -> Canary_sac.mpvf
presentation with mtb classifications, based on the tag mtb:scale (see Singletrailskala) -> Canary_mtb.mpvf

Put always the Clay with the same name like the MPVF also on the SD-Card!

The MPVF is always the same but it's the only way to assign different CLAYs by using different names.

I will use the mtb version combined with the spanish topo RMAP for my holiday on Gran Canaria.

green SAC T1 (hiking) or S0 (MTB)
    cyan SAC T2 or S1
    rot SAC T3 or S2
    violett SAC T4 or S3
    orange SAC T5 or S4
    yellow SAC T6 or S5

The map Canary_topo.mpvf is a classic topo map, without any way difficulty classification.

Compare with the old version of this map (from March 2010) the data in OSM of the canary islands grow with factor 2 in one year.

Unfortunately I had to use Land 6.85, MPVF generation with Land 7.x.x don't really works.
I try to crate routing and search information, but that don't really works.

Compe told me that they will work on the Vector modul for Land 7.2

MTB (VTT, BTT) map of france

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KCMW2S50

this map base on OSM data.
It covered all mountain regions of france (alps, pyrenees, voges, massiv central, jura).
I ignore the flat region of France (Paris, Bretagne, Normandie, ...).

Take care, this is not a full map!
It contains only ways with known MTB-difficulty (mtb:scale tag in OSM)

    S0 green (easy)
    S1 cyan
    S2 red
    S3 dark-green
    S4 dark-blue
S5 dark-violet (only for crazy cracks)
    see http://www.singletrail-skala.de/

Also this map contains POIs and lifts.

    PLease use always the CLAY!
Just put MPVF and CLAY in the same directory of the map folder of TwoNav or CompeGPS Land.

    Great!!!
    Thanks CpA for the compliment.

I done this map still with 6.8.5 three weeks ago for a bike holiday in the Voges.
I post it already in the german Naviboard forum 2 weeks ago.
After our discussion about VMPF creation with 7.1.8u it come back to my mind, I though it may be also for interest for french or spanish bikers.

I will try to create a similar map e.g. for Swiss with 7.1.8u.
But give me some time, I'm busy with other private stuff, which are very important.

I hope you're right and VMPF creation is improved in the upcoming 7.2.
User created maps out of OSM (www.openstreetmap.org) or other free data sources can help us users.
I think it would make the Compe-platform (Land and TwoNav) more attractive, which is also a benefit for CompeGPS.
At the moment the big variation of OSM-based free maps is a argument for a Garmin device and a disadvantage of TwoNav.
You see it also on the user votes on http://compegps.uservoice.com/forums...ou-/filter/top
    that people ask for it.

Sorry for offtopic, I hope a little bit "pressure" on CompeGPS helps.
