    Predeterminado ECW vs. RMAP

    Hi,

I have JPG scanned and calibrated maps, I want to load these maps to Sportiva.
    Which format is better?
Can somebody compare the two formats advantages/disadvantages of each?
Save as ECW in Compgps land requires a compression value (default is 30), which value is preferred and why?

    Thanks

    Hello

Cant comment on difference between RMAP and ECW. I always use ECW as it is a format that can be used in other programs as well (i.e no need for two files).

A lower ECW compression ratio results in larger files but better resolution. So it is a comprimise which you may or may not need to consider. For small areas I use 5 or 10 ratio. Larger maps maybe 20. In a lot of cases the lower ratios make little observable difference in quality and ~20 would be fine. Depends on quality of original image as well. Experiment with your own maps and see.

    Cheers
    Greg

I also use ECW, because I can use it on other software (ArcGis, GlobalMapper, GVsig, TerraExplorer, ...). Anyway, RMAP is better to use on TwoNav because it's a little bit faster than the ECW, and you have not limits on the size of the map...

    Hope it helps...

In the first days of the Aventura I prefer ECW, because it's a more open format.

But I switched to RMAP, because it's faster under TwoNav/Aventura.

It's not so much work to convert an ECW with CompeGPS Land or TTQV to RMAP.
The work it's worth, you will see the benefit.

these maps have a big performance for TWONAV Systems:

24 Bitmaps (Satmaps) ECW WGS 84 UTM (Compression max 1:10) (generated with globalmapper from 1:1 ecw in tiles to 4 GB)
8 Bitmaps (normally Maps) RMAP WGS 84 Mercator (generated from geotiff with CGPSL or TTQV)

    VMAPS = WGS 84 Mercator

The Display from Sportiva ist top, than we need best Maps.

You see the different ecw/rmap with 200 km/h and Maps with 1m/Pixel
